Thrifty Find + DIY Plans: Hand Painted Globe

I have been looking for an old globe like this forever (or so it feels), when I saw this one at the goodwill (for $6.96!!) I jumped on it. 

I'm hoping to turn it intoa replica of this beautiful anthro one:
