The One About A Father's Love

When a father gives his daughter a gift, he does not want repayment of any kind. If we were to try to repay him it would offend both the father and lessen the value of the gift.

It is in this way that the Lord, our Father, showers us with His blessings. He does not want us to try to repay him. He is looking for us to respond to His gift of love and saving grace.

It is through this frame of reference that verses such as Ephesians 2:5 "it is by grace you have been saved" and James 2:20 "faith without deeds is useless" both make complete sense.

Happy Sunday! :)

The One About A Wedding

Oh my goodness! Life started moving fast and has not seemed to slow down! Its been an awesome ride, but has not left much room for blogging unfortunately.

Over the past week, I have been hired for a full time job with a Hyatt Place, quit working at Outback, and started training at the hotel. This is such a blessing, because Outback was only giving me two or so shifts a week and while I don't want to be a work-aholic, I wanted to do more than that a week.

On the social side of things, life has been awesome! I spent a few days in Chattanooga with my best friend and his puppy for a Saturday morning wedding, returned home for an engagement party Saturday night, and Father's day was Sunday.

It has been a much busier week than usual. I am so excited about the hotel job because the two shifts I will be working are 6 am - 3 pm or 3 pm - 1130 pm. While this does not sound ideal to many, compared to a restaurant shift that could require working from 11am - 2pm, making little money, and monopolizing an entire day, this is much better!

Tuesday night, after my first training shift, my sweet sweet friend, whose engagement we celebrated Saturday, called and asked if I would be one of her bridesmaids. I accepted of course, and am SO excited for her. They are both super planners and have almost everything decided for their May 2011 wedding already!

And, with weddings on my mind, here are some adorable idea boards I stumbled across on Elizabeth Anne Designs blog earlier this week!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! :)

The One With A Pink and Green Popsicle Wednesday!

I just discovered Country Living's awesome variety of summer ice pop recipes on their website! After trying the Fruit Pop, I HAD to share the recipe!

  • 3 cup(s) ripe fresh fruit chunks (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, or pineapple)
  • 1/2 cup(s) superfine sugar
  • 3 tablespoon(s) light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon(s) lemon juice
  • 2 cup(s) vanilla yogurt

Directions

  1. In blender, puree fresh fruit with sugar, corn syrup, and lemon juice until very smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add vanilla yogurt and blend until smooth. Taste mixture and adjust sweetness, adding more sugar if needed.
  2. Pour mixture into 10 (1/2-cup) pop molds. Place tops on molds and insert wooden sticks. Freeze at least 4 hours before removing fruit pops from molds.
So easy and completely tasty!

The One About Anthropologie, Lilly, and Silver

Summer Bible study started today! We will be going through James over the next few weeks and if every week is like this morning it will be AWESOME!
I'm so excited about my small group too. We talked about those who we know who have handled struggles with joy and grace. I spent most of the time with my eyes filled with tears from the women's stories. They were so inspiring, I hope I someday can have their faith in the Lord. I can't wait to get to know all of them better over the summer. :)

On another note, while out of town and off the computer, there were quite a few giveaways posted that I would love to share about!

$25 Anthropologie gift card from Not Just A Pretty Face

Lilly gear from Shopaholic in Alabama

3 Hammered Silver Bangles from Spiral Style

Have a good night!

The One About Summer Surf!

The beach was wonderful! The girls taught us to surf, the waves were terrible, but it was SO much fun!

We love Katie and Kristen! It is so much fun to spend time with them because there are so few people that understand that my sisters are my best friends, but they are the exact same way and we always have a BLAST together! :)

These three are my FAVORITES! :)

Before I left I cleaned out my closet a little bit. I was just going to drop everything at goodwill but had a worn twice pair of TOMS that I was just going to giveaway. My mom suggested I list them on ebay. Well, I started looking around ebay and saw that some of my other clothes might sell as well. I listed 23 items, 15 of them sold, and made a $210 profit on clothes i was just going to give to goodwill!

As a poor college student I was VERY excited to say the least. I re-listed the things that did not sell and went back through my closet to get rid of more stuff.

Hello Extended Shopping Budget! :)

The One About Updated Dorm Room Decor

Baby and I had a very productive day yesterday! We went shopping for her dorm room and we started at Goodwill because we wanted to find an old fixer-uper (cheap) lamp shade to craft. We ended up with much more than we bargained for but was so excited with what we found!

We found some great dishes... not many of them, but they are really nice and she will actually use them!

Some cute mugs, I am a huge fan of a good mug! They make tea, coffee, hot choc, or whatever so much happier!

We also revamped (thanks to Hobby Lobby spray paint and fabric) some of her already goodwill-ed pieces! We sprayed the lamp and vanity and recovered the lamp shade with the fabric and are in the process of stitching little blue beads onto it now. I'm pretty happy with how nice and sweet it all came together :)

I finally finished Middle's bulletin/message board! I am SO happy about how it turned out. Sewing the buttons on took a little while, but they look so much better sewn on rather than just hot glued!

Just another AWESOME summer day!

The One With Making Brown Rice Flour

For those of you who do not know me personally, there are quite a few foods that I cannot eat without there being adverse effects on my body. My two greatest allergies are those to wheat and dairy.

So, I have been experimenting with substituting rice flour into recipes lately. Which, honestly, has not been very successful. The rice flour always seems to make things come out heavier or gritty. And buying brown rice flour bread gets pretty pricey. On top of that, it comes in 24 oz bags, which I go through pretty quickly while trying to make bread or cookies.

So, I have begun experimenting with making the flour myself out of regular store bought brown rice. I used the tutorial found here and my coffee grinder with surprisingly good success. I am not a big coffee drinker and use my coffee grinder mainly to grind flax seed but am so excited that it works for this purpose too!

I just have this generic Mr Coffee grinder and it works like a charm! With different settings it usually grinds the rice more finely than the store bought flour!

I hope this is helpful for those of you who are or know anyone who is Celiac or who prefer to use rice as a healthier wheat alternative! I will be sure to keep you updated on my baking attempts!

The One With An Awesome Summer Playlist

I absolutely love this movie and the music in it!

My playlist for the day is straight from the movie with:
  1. Do You Believe In Magic - The Lovin' Spoonful
  2. There She Goes - The La's
  3. Here Comes The Sun - Bob Khaleel
  4. Never Let You Go - Jakaranda
  5. This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - Natalie Cole
I love these songs, they all make me want to dance like a little kid! Even if I am having a bad day "Never Let You Go" and "Do You Believe In Magic" always make me smile :)

I hope you have a great relaxing Saturday!

The One About Wagging More

I've seen more and more of these bumper stickers around lately and smile everytime I see one. Too cute and true! :)

I think they originated at Agatha and Loise in Portland, Maine.

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! :)
