When a father gives his daughter a gift, he does not want repayment of any kind. If we were to try to repay him it would offend both the father and lessen the value of the gift.It is in this way that the Lord, our Father, showers us with His blessings. He does not want us to try to repay him. He is looking for us to respond to His gift of love and saving grace.
It is through this frame of reference that verses such as Ephesians 2:5 "it is by grace you have been saved" and James 2:20 "faith without deeds is useless" both make complete sense.
